BELAGAVI FOREST DIVISION:

 

The Belagavi forest division headquarter is located at  Belagavi. The tract is spread over a part of the Belgaum district. Out of total 10 taluks, viz., Belgaum, Bailhongal, Khanapur, Hukkeri, Athani, Chikkodi, Gokak, Raibag, Ramdurg and Saundatti (Savadatti) in Belgaum district, only the first three are completely within Belagavi Division.

 

The Division has a total geographical area of 432,510 Ha (excluding 19,042.58 ha of Bhimgad Wildlife Sanctuary). The notified forest area is 123,046.792 Ha, which is 28.4 % of the geographical area. If Section 4 areas, Unclassed Forests and the C&D lands under control of the forest department are also included, the area becomes 129,471.388 Ha, which is 30% of total geographical area.

 

GHATAPRABHA FOREST DIVISION:

           

  In order to administer the eastern parts of Belagavi district,   a separate forest division called Ghataprabha Forest Division is established with headquarters at Gokak. This forest division has good dry deciduous and thorn and scrub jungle mainly along the rolling hills in the area. It covers portions of

Hukkeri, Athani, Chikkodi, Gokak, Raibag, Ramdurg and Saundatti (Savadatti) in Belgaum district. It has forest area of 50774.87 Ha. It has scenic waterfalls like the Gokak falls and Godachinamalki falls.

 

BAGALKOT FOREST DIVISION:

 

The Bagalkot Forest Division has the jurisdiction of Bagalkot District. The

division has six Ranges namely Bagalkot, Badami, Bilagi, Hungund, Jamakhandi

and Mudhol.  The division has a geographical area of 6.575 lakh hectare, out of

which 0.789 lakh hectare (i.e., 12%) is the notified forest area.

 

 

VIJAYAPURA FOREST DIVISION:

The Division is co-terminus with the revenue district of Bijapur, located in northern Karnataka. These forest areas were, till 27.08.1998, a part of Bagalkot Forest Division with Division headquarters at Bagalkot and comprised of only two Ranges viz., Bijapur and Basavan Bagewadi in whole of present day Bijapur district. After bifurcation of original Bijapur district into Bijapur and Bagalkot, a new Forest Division co-terminus with the new Bijapur district has come into existence. The Division is spread over five taluks viz., Bijapur, Indi, Sindagi, Muddebihal and Basavan Bagewadi. It comprises of four territorial Ranges – Bijapur, Indi, Sindagi and Muddebihal Range. While the first three Ranges are

co-terminus with the respective taluks, Muddebihal Range has jurisdiction over

 

The total geographical area of Bijapur Division is 10,54,090 Ha. Out of it, the

notified forest area is 1,787.35 Ha, which is about 0.17% of the total geographical area of district. If Section 4 areas and other lands under control of the forest department are also included, the area becomes 3,642.97 Ha (about 0.35% of total geographical area). The percentage of forest area in the Division is one of the lowest in the state.

 

SOCIAL FORESTRY DIVISIONS:

  The Social Forestry division is created to provide impetus  through afforestation in non-forest areas like farm lands, roadsides, institutional lands and schools. Lands under other Government departments, Panchayats for the purpose of increasing tree covers through afforestation in the areas. The objective is to increase the green cover of the country and also provide fuelwood , small timber and fodder to the villages by creating woodlots in the vicinity of the villages.
